TWCD’s Artistic Director, Melinda Imthurn, holds a Bachelor
of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a Master of Music in Vocal Pedagogy from Texas Woman’s University, and has continued studies at Shenandoah Conservatory.  As a singer, Melinda has performed with the Denton Light Opera Company, Deep Ellum Opera Theatre, Helios Ensemble, Fort Worth Early Music Society, Casa Manana, and in solo recital.  In addition to serving as TWCD’s Artistic Director, Melinda is a member of the full-time music faculty at Eastfield College in the Dallas County Community College District.  She also maintains a busy private vocal studio and is a frequent clinician and adjudicator for choral groups and soloists.



TWCD’s Assistant Artistic Director and Principal Accompanist, Will Varner, teaches elementary music in Richardson ISD.  He also plays piano for children's choirs, church choirs, instrumentalists, singers, and musical theater productions. He has written and arranged music for soloists, ensembles, church choirs, school choirs, and bell choirs. His musical career has included a variety of experiences such as teaching on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona, playing gamelan for an opera, and performing for Chinese music students at the Great Wall of China.  Will has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas and a Masters degree in Music Education from Holy Names College in Oakland, California. He also served as the state elementary vice president of Texas Music Educators of Texas.

The vision of The Women's Chorus of Dallas is to be a recognized choral group providing musical excellence and contributing to the community in a positive manner through entertainment and the support of women's causes. Through this commitment, we will be united in our mission to embrace diversity, empower women, increase in number and continue to be an integral part of the community in order to inspire the soul, touch the heart and impact the lives of all who come to hear us.

Our Vision

Founded in 1989, The Women’s Chorus of Dallas is recognized as one of the nation’s finest women’s choruses. Each year, TWCD performs 2-3 ticketed concerts and many outreach concerts with a membership of 50+ singers.


The Artistic Director, Melinda Imthurn, joined the chorus in 2004 and has helped the chorus enhance its artistic product and successfully move into the Arts District. The chorus maintains a close musical collaboration with many performing arts groups in Dallas, including the Turtle Creek Chorale, The Dallas Wind Symphony, The Texas Boys Choir, The Dallas Opera, Titas, and others.


TWCD has sung three concerts at Carnegie Hall and at the inaugurations of Governor Ann Richards and Dallas Mayors Ron Kirk, Laura Miller, and Tom Leppert. The chorus also sang a Command performance for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her official state visit to Dallas. The chorus has 10 solo CD recordings.
